Over in the Jungle...

Babies and Toddlers loved the interactive story told at our Baby Book Club in the Park this week! We read Over in the Jungle: A Rainforest Rhyme by Marianne Berkes.

Afterwards, the kids (with a little help from their mamas) made Lions from paper plates and rotini!
How cute are these simple crafts?!
And of course we always take time to play!

A beach - just around the corner!

You don't have to go to Florida or Prince Edward Island, or even make the trek to Muskoka, to find a beach the whole family can enjoy!

Our family recently spent a Sunday afternoon at Kelso beach, about 20 minutes drive from Oakville - and had a blast! It cost us just under $20 for a family of four (kids 4 and under are free so we had one freebie and one paying child).

The kids had a blast digging in the sand, the water was super warm and well patrolled by lifeguards. Lots of shallow area for little ones to splash around in and enough deeper area for those beginner swimmers.

You can bring whatever you want food-wise, and they also had concession stands open for ice cream and the usual beach fare.

Great people-watching too! Some families got really into it and brought bbqs, tents, etc. It seems that anything goes at the beach!

It was pretty busy on the weekend, but still not hard to find a place to settle in. Weekdays are probably less busy - keep in mind that daycamps use the beach, but apparently they keep to one side so there is still plenty of room for public use.

Check out Kelso and other great Halton Conservation area attractions for a fun family event this summer. momstown Oakville has lots of fun events going on as well - our new member meet-up and Baby Book Club is this week at Coronation Park - click here to sign up for a free trial and join us!

Crafty Kids Make Paper Bag Puppets

Looking for a simple but fun craft for your toddler?

This month's
Crafty Kids Playgroup got together at The Little Gym to make paper bag froggie puppets!

First we painted our paper bags green...

...then carefully cut out and coloured some eyes, a tongue, and a pair of arms.

Then we glued the eyes, tongue, and arms to the bag....

And VOILA! A Paper Bag Froggie Puppet!

momstown Oakville's Crafty Kids Playgroup meets once a month. We create a variety of fun crafts that the kids can take home. There's snack time and play time afterwards for both mamas and kids! Summer reading... keep kids engaged!

Once upon a time the lazy days of summer meant a book and a pool deck or a cottage dock... but with kids in tow those moments are few and far between! Never fear - we can introduce our little ones to the joys of reading this summer... with a few incentives along the way!

The Oakville Public library's Summer Reading Club is a great program for kids of all ages - whether they are reading on their own, or enjoying stories being read to them - they can be part of the 'club' and participate.

Visit your local branch this summer and sign up. Kids get an activity book, stickers, and a chance to put their own name badge up on the library wall. Kids set goals for reading, and then come back to the library when they've reached their goal. They'll get rewards (prizes this year include McDonald's ice cream cones, African Lion Safari kids passes, and YMCA swim passes).

Each time you 'report', you earn a new level and set more reading goals. It keeps kids engaged all summer long and starts a great habit!

The program is open to kids of all ages, whether they are reading on their own, or being read to by a caregiver.

momstown Oakville is getting kids reading - all year long! Our Baby Book club is held each month - we read a story together, do theme-related craft, and enjoy both mom and kid company. Try it out - our next Baby Book Club is July 22nd at Coronation Park - if you register now for a 2-week free momstown trial, you can join us! Children of all ages are welcome.

Soccer's not just for FIFA players

Oakville's young soccer players are having a blast this summer! Catching World Cup fever... or just learning the ropes... soccer is one of the fastest growing sports for kids in Canada.

Looking for a way to get your child into soccer this summer? Oakville has so many options, it's hard to list them all...

The Oakville Soccer Club has programs for ages 3 and up... from camps to leagues, both indoors and out. Dash Sports also off
ers soccer leagues and sports camps for the little athlete in your family - as young as 3 years old! Sportball offers programs in Oakville for both soccer skills and general sports - both parented and unparented.

Not at the soccer-age yet? Balls are fun at any stage... little ones can roll them back and forth with a friend or parent... it's a great circle time game and helps build coordination.

Ball sports are a great way to get kids active, outside, and having fun - and all you need is a ball and room to kick it (plus a few friends!)... might as well channel that inborn child energy and perhaps groom a future World Cup player!

momstown Mamas in Oakville have all kinds of events and outings planned for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers... to get active and out of the house this summer! To get more information and learn about our two-week trial membership, click here.

Rainy Days in momstown

How do you keep your kids busy on a rainy summer day? The Mamas of momstown Oakville get together for an indoor playdate at Dazzle Art!

The kids kept busy painting, exploring the craft stations, and playing in the toddler fun zone while us mamas enjoyed a cup of coffee and some great conversation!

We had so much fun that - starting in the fall - we will be back at Dazzle every month for our Crafty Kids Playgroup!
