momstown construction party at Dazzle art

We ended off our last construction themed event with a bang! Dazzle was full of excitement as our kids and mamas arrived this morning for some playtime, snacks, sky scraper building and parachute songs. A great morning was had by all, and i know my kids had a great nap when it was all over. There was a great group of kids - and Dazzle is always full of so many great toys.

Our skyscraper construction craft turned out great! For more construction craft ideas - check out our momstown arts and crafts blog!

Sensory, climbing, puzzles, imagination - you name it Dazzle Art has it!
Our kids enjoyed play time, and mamas had a chance to socialize. The kids slowed down just enough to grab a slice of watermelon for snack, and then we pulled out the parachute! Songs, games, a beach ball - and some very excited kids.

Thanks Dazzle Art for hosting us. This was our last party at Dazzle until the fall. We have moved our playgroups outside to enjoy the sunshine. We will be resuming at Dazzle again in September. If you'd like to join us for a Dazzle party, or an outdoor playgroup, register for a free 2 week trial, or email Sarah for more details.

Fisher-Price LOVE U Zoo Musical Activity Gym

Cole is our 3rd baby in 4.5 years so needless to say he doesn't get too many new things! We were all very excited when we found out he would be testing the Love U Zoo Musical Activity Gym. He would get to be the first one to try this out!
Well, it arrived just in time! Cole had been teething for 2 miserable days. I tried everything. Then, the Love U Zoo Musical Activity Gym arrived.
Just the distraction Cole needed. To start with, this activity mat was so easy to put together. With the eager help of a 2 and 4 year old we had the mat assembled in minutes. Cole loved it! He was rolling from side to side, exploring the toys. He was rolling the ball under the elephant and pulling on the monkeys.
We placed the mirror so that he was smiling at himself everytime he rolled to his tummy (checking out his 2 new teeth!). At one point his arms and legs were going at the same time as he kicked and pulled the toys.
This was exactly what my fussy 6 month old needed. He seemed to be having so much fun he forgot about the teething pain. Coles excitement for this activity mat didn't change. Every day he enjoys rolling around, playing with toys.
His 2 sisters just love laying on the floor interacting with him. They move the toys around to keep him busy exploring and play "teacher" telling him about all the animals on the mat.
What a great new toy to keep my little guy busy for the next few months.

Oakville Picasso in the Park - creative painting for kids

What a way to kick off the summer!

Our momstown Oakville playgroups are moving outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. This is one of our favorite events, and a very popular one too.

Our moms and kids met at the park for some painting, park play, snacks and splash pad fun. We started of with paints - and these kids are creative. :)

They were making patterns, using brushes, fingers and sponges. Even our moms got a little messy. Kids were creating masterpieces, many of them for father's day. Every colour of paint was there, and the end results were amazing!

After snack time, kids headed to play at the park, or to enjoy a few splashes at the splash pad.
momstown Oakville has so many great summer events planned to keep your little ones busy. We also have several more Picasso in the Park planned - so if you missed this one, make sure you join us for the next!

Happy Father's Day

Our momstown Oakville playgroup had a great time at The Little Gym this week. We made father's day cards, and the dad's are going to LOVE these ones.

They are BIG to give our kids lots of room to create, add pictures, draw something, and cover the card with LOVE.

We added handprint and footprints to the cards to personalize them. The kids really enjoyed making their card special for dad.

In keeping with our construction theme, the kids got to work building towers when they were done the craft.

We also featured out scholastic book at this event. All the kids really enjoyed reading and getting involved in our book this month.
Congratulations to Sherri the winner of our first scholastic book giveaway! Momstown Oakville will be reading and giving away one scholastic book every month.

Summer reading - join the club!

The Oakville Public Library's summer reading program launches at the end of June! You don't need to be a reader to participate - my youngest son was 2 yrs old the first summer he joined, and the books we read to him counted towards his participation!

Sponsored by TD Bank, the reading program is launched Canada-wide at the end of June/early July in many communities*. The goal is to encourage children to engage with books throughout the summer.

Upon signing up, children usually receive a poster, stickers, colouring book, and a way to track their summer reading. When milestones are hit (say, 10 books read) kids receive a reward - such as a free ice cream from a local restaurant, or a pass to a local entertainment complex. Each year my kids look forward to the library reading program, and it's a great way to start off the summer!

The theme this year is Splash! Celebrate Summer and the website has lots of links to recommended book lists (ranging from pictures books up to teenage years).

An interactive kids website has been designed to engage kids in reading with online games and activities. Whatever momstown community you're part of, there should be a local library ready to engage your kids in reading this summer!

momstown has a strong literacy program as part of its educational curriculum for children aged 0-5. Our kids and baby book clubs, book reviews, and parent resources help families make reading a part of their every day.

Even the youngest child can engage with letters - momstown has a full range of alphabet crafts to get kids interested!

Join us this summer - momstown Oakville has a fun calendar filled with park and splash pad playdates, Picassos in the park, crafty playgroups and more!
