On the bright side if you haven't been to the new Oakville Soccer Club your in luck because it is impossible to miss! Just south of Dundas on Third Line is the big and brilliant facility. This is where you are going to find MANIA!! We will be inside and outside - just look for all the kids paying with paint and potting flowers and a bunch of moms sipping coffee!

Wine & Chocolate

Mmmmmmmmmm,
The lights are down and the fire is lit. The mood is set. What could be more romantic than a box of chocolates and a terrific wine? Some say it can’t be done, pairing wine with chocolate, but if you have the right chocolate and the right wine, it can be a match made in heaven. In preparation for Valentine's Day we enjoyed learning about pairing different kinds of chocolate with the correct wines to capture that perfect zen-like moment. We were all in heaven, It was suggested that we actally savour the taste of the chocolate and let it melt in our mouths instead of inhaling it hmmm, a unique experience for many of us who were used to eating chocolate so quickly that we rarely even paid attention to how it actually tasted. Our absolute overall favourite was pairing Gewurtzaminer with white chocolate. Following in second place was pairing Tawny Port with a Bittersweet Dark Chocolate. We all enjoyed many conversations thoughout the night but managed to take away some impressive information to share with our hubbies on Valentine's Day:)

Money, Money, Money..

Nope, it wasn't an evening spent singing along to the Mama Mia soundtrack, it was an evening shared with moms interested in money, how to get more, how to save more, how to spend wisely. My head is still spinning from all the tips and tricks. We talked about RESP's, RRSP's, the huge downturn in the economy, ideas to shelter the storm, weekly meal planning,shopping habits, you name it, it was discussed. We all learned from each other and we're looking forward to meeting 6 times a year to discuss all sorts of things related to Money! Well, I am off to write my weekly meal plan out for next week (then I'll be all ready for the Friday flyers to see where all the stuff I need to make meals for the following week will be on sale.) YIPPEE!!!

Monthly Playgroup and Seminar

Yesterday, we held our regular monthly playgroup in the party room at The Little Gym. Healthy Sprouts gave an informative talk on starting 6-12 month olds on solid foods. The toddlers were entertained by lots of fun activities while the moms got a chance to learn more about introducing their babies to solids. Healthy Sprouts had samples and hand-outs to help guide moms on what to feed their babies and when to start all the food groups. All this while the kids were busy playing with playdoh and exploring their new tents and tunnel! I'm running out to the bookstore to pick up Dr. Greene's "Raising Baby Green", full of nutrition tips during pregnancy and babies for my next shower gift. The book is chock full of ideas to help environmentally conscious parents make healthy product and lifestyle choices. Healthy Sprouts is hosting a toddler nutrition seminar for momstown members on Jan. 25, details on the momstown calendar.

Yes, it's the start of a brand new year and we'd love you to get involved with Oakville momstown! We have lots of fun & exciting events coming up like kiddie bowling, toddler nutrition seminars, our new dinner club and poker nights too!!!
