Oakville moms and kids loved momstown's Fisher Price Halloween Bash!

What a morning!  momstown Oakville had their annual Halloween Bash this morning at Little Rascals Indoor Playground.  The party was sponsored by Fisher Price and we had seven amazing toys to give away!  In addition to getting to play with some Fisher Price toys, we had lots of other Halloween activities to do and of course the amazing play structure at Little Rascals.  It was such a great time!

The Fisher Price Area was busy all morning long!

We had lots to keep the kids busy this morning but the main attraction was the Fisher Price play area.

Master Moves Mickey
Cruise & Groove Ballapalooza
Rescue Heroes Firetruck
Hero World Batwing

The best part about the Fisher Price play area?  momstown Oakville moms got to take the toys home!  We had some very thrilled mama's!

Winner of the Little People Disney Princess Songs Palace
Disney Baby Amazing Animals Sing Along Choo Choo
Servin' Surprises Kitchen & Table

There was also some sensory fun, pumpkin bowling, crafts and of course jumping in the ball pit or playing on the awesome structure at Little Rascals Indoor Playground - it was a perfect party venue!  LEWS Lenses was also on hand to take portrait shots in front of a Halloween backdrop of all our party guests.  Can't wait to see how they turned out!

Frankenstein pudding cups!

And we can't forget the adorable costumes!  From a pink crayon to twin ducks to supergirl, spiderman, a peacock and so many other cute costumes, it was great to see all the kids dressed up.  We had lots of moms in costume too!

Thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated with momstown Oakville.  We had a great time!  Want to join our next party?  Purchase your membership here.  Hope to see you soon!

Five Pumpkin Seed Recipes

So you may have thought about making your own roasted pumpkin seeds and just let the moment pass but the following go to guide and very yummy spice tosses may change your mind this year while carving out that pumpkin – Enjoy!

Directions
1.     Seed the pumpkin: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Using a spoon, scrape the pulp and seeds out of your pumpkin into a bowl.
2.     Clean the seeds: Separate the seeds from the stringy pulp, rinse the seeds in a colander under cold water, then shake dry. Don't blot with paper towels; the seeds will stick.
3.     Dry them: Spread the seeds in a single layer on an oiled baking sheet and roast 30 minutes to dry them out.
4.     Add spices: Toss the seeds with olive oil, salt and your choice of spices (see below). Return to the oven and bake until crisp and golden, about 20 more minutes.

Sweet Toss with cinnamon and sugar (do not use salt in step 4).
Indian Toss with garam masala; mix with currants after roasting.
Spanish Toss with smoked paprika; mix with slivered almonds after roasting.
Italian Toss with grated parmesan and dried oregano.
Barbecue Toss with brown sugar, chipotle chile powder and ground cumin.

Thanks to our new Community Manager, Melanie for sharing these awesome pumpkin seed recipes!

Ideas for leftover Halloween Candy

It's hard to know how much Halloween candy to buy as the amount of trick or treaters seems to vary year over year.  And if Halloween falls on a weekend, there seems to be more celebrating - more parties, more candy, more treats! The influx of Halloween candy is not yet in my house but I know that after all the parties and trick or treating fun, we'll have more Halloween candy at home than we know what to do with!  Here are some recipe and craft ideas for what to do with leftover Halloween candy.

1.  Use potato chips as breading for fish or chicken!  Crush up potato chips and coat the item using mayonnaise, mustard or egg white to help adhere the chips.

2.  Use crushed up potato chips to give your pasta bake or macaroni and cheese a twist.

3. Make S'Mores with left over pretzels - just swap out the graham crackers!

4. Take your favourite cake recipe and add 2 cups of chopped up Halloween candy.  This cake is a guaranteed hit!  Any birthdays in November that need special cake?  This also works with your favourite brownie recipe.

5. Save hard candies, suckers and caramels to use as decorations for your holiday gingerbread house.

6.  Use leftover coloured candies to make art such as rainbows or flowers.

And of course, its never a bad idea to stash a few away for a late night treat once the kids are sound asleep! Have other creative ways to use leftover candy?  Share with us!

momstown Oakville Kids Make Halloween Junior Chef Creations

This morning the momstown Oakville moms and kids created spooky Halloween treats at our monthly Junior Chef program.  Owl s'mores and chocolate spiders were a big hit with our kitchen helpers and were also very fun to make.

How to Make Owl S'Mores

1.  Cut one marshmallow in half and place each half on a large graham cracker.
2.  Put a yellow melting candy melt on top of each marshmallow (you can get these at a bulk foods store).
3.  Heat in the microwave 3-5 seconds to make them puff up but not get too hot.
4.  Add a chocolate chip on top of each candy melt and put the candy corn in the middle for the nose while its still warm so everything will stick.

The kids had lots of fun putting these together and taking turns watching the marshmallows puff up in the microwave.

Next came the chocolate spiders!  Follow a rice krispie square recipe but use chocolate o's instead.  Shape the mixture into small mounds for the spiders body.  Add pretzel sticks for legs, marshmallows and chocolate chips (or raisins) for eyes and you can use gel icing to pipe on a mouth.

Check out these really cute final results!  The kids had a blast in the kitchen this morning.
