Reflections of a entrepreneur and a momstown mama

Whew!  Last weekend was the spring momstown National conference held in Burlington, Ontario.  My mind is still in overdrive - but in a good way.  This was my first conference as I just joined the team in February and so I didn't really know what to expect.

What I have learned about myself over the last few years is that I thrive on feeling like I am making a difference.  My second job out of university was at a non-profit organization and that has forever influenced the way I feel about work and how I spend my time.  I have tried other types of jobs and careers, but it never resonates with me or makes me feel the way I feel when I know I am making changes for the better.

And every person in the conference room this weekend (all 24 of us!) has that same feeling that I do.  We are making good things happen and its powerful and rewarding and inspiring and fun! There are three new chapters opening today and it was amazing to see their eyes wide with excitement as they learned all there is to know about momstown.  It's so much bigger that what it looks to be.  So much bigger!  They took to their blogs to capture their thoughts and I wanted to share their beautifully written posts since I don't think I could say it any better!

What I can say is that I continue to be amazed at the support that comes from the Oakville chapter.  We've had a lot of new moms join us recently and they are peppering the message board with lots of questions.  From breastfeeding to gas pains to everything sleep, there has not been one other member who passed judgement.  The message board was filled with responses, lots of positive ideas and stories to share and almost every member congratulated these new moms on reaching out and asking questions and letting them know that they are happy to help.  These new moms got all this without leaving their living room!  It was there for them at 3am, it was there for them after a rough feed, it was there for them if they were feeling blue.   And as they get more comfortable with leaving the house, we are ready to welcome them to any event they wish to attend.  All moms need this type of support, it can make such a difference!

momstown is taking Canada by storm, that's for sure.  The positive energy that resonates from this organization is getting almost impossible to ignore.  I feel lucky to be a part of the momstown team.  We get support, motivation, inspiration and the occasional kick in the pants from our head mama's but this is exactly the type of organization I want to be a part of.  I look forward to continuing our work to connect local moms with each other, their community and to all the tools and resources that help us all become stronger and happier parents.

The momstown team!

It was great to meet you last weekend, and to see the face behind all of the wonderful things happening in Oakville. I can't wait to see what you accomplish in the next 6 months! I miss everyone already, and can't wait for the next one.

Great Blog Kelly! It's so very true that momstown is SO much bigger and better than you imagine when you first hear about it.
I'm so excited to start the Mississauga chapter and start helping all the moms in our city connect and support each other. YAY momstown!
