Did you know all these things about Oakville's Whole Foods Market?

I don't often use the word 'lovely' to describe things, but in this case I can't think of a better word.  Last night the momstown Oakville mama's gathered at Whole Foods to do a store tour and sample some wine and cheese.  And it was lovely!  A big thank you to France and her team for putting on such a great night.

Not only were we treated to goodie bags (and one lucky member received a $25 gift card), three types of delicious cheese, candied pecans, crackers and three wines to sample, but we all agreed that we learned so much about food in general and about the Whole Foods store and their practices.

Goodie bags with coupons and samples!

Did you know these things about Oakville's Whole Foods Market?

1.  You can find their weekly sale flyer on their website.  A new flyer comes out every Wednesday.
2.  They have a 3 day sale every week in their meat and seafood department (Friday - Sunday).
3.  Their cheese department carries 300 different varieties and also has a 3 day sale each week (Fri - Sun).
4.  Their bakery department does not use preservatives and has a 3 day sale each week (Wed - Friday).
5.  Their snack aisle does not have any items that contain trans fats.
6.  They implemented a color-coded rating program that provides shoppers with sustainability status information for all wild-caught seafood.
7.  They also have a rating system for meat and poultry to let customers know what kind of environment the animals were raised in.  Their meat and poultry is hormone and antibiotic free and only fed vegetable feed.
8.  They sell 8 (yes, 8!) different types of milk from cow's milk to almond milk to flax milk.
9.  They are partnering with the Harbourside Organic Farmers Market which will take place every Saturday morning from 9am to 1pm from June 16 to October 27 at Whole Foods Market in Oakville.
10.  They sell both conventional and organic items, they are not just an organic grocer.

You can visit their website or their Facebook page, or sign up to get the latest store specials by email.

I was so engrossed in the store tour that I forgot to take any pictures!  I was impressed by how important they feel it is and by how hard they try at making the information about the foods they sell very transparent and accessible to shoppers.  They also have information posted all over the store about nutritional values for foods such as the ANDI scores (Aggregate Nutrient Density Index) and have a program called "Heathly Starts Here" that has recipes available which focus on eating unprocessed foods, healthy fats and nutrient dense foods.

After the store tour, we enjoyed our wine and cheese on their licensed patio and chatted until the store closed!

Interesting in joining us for the next mama's night out?  We've got Poker Night, Beach Volleyball, a Favourite Things Exchange, Chakra Balancing and trips to the Driving Range all happening this month!  Sign up for a FREE 4 week trial to join in on all the fun.
