Jewellry Making Night!

We had a fabulous time beading to our hearts content last Thursday evening. The projects of the evening were bookmarks and keychains. The Dragonfly Girls are a fantastic beading team (they have day jobs and do home beading parties just for fun!). At just $15 dollars, I ended up with two beautiful bookmarks, can't wait to give them away as gifts, or maybe I'll just start reading more :). We'll do this one again for sure.

Wine & Chocolate

Mmmmmmmmmm,
The lights are down and the fire is lit. The mood is set. What could be more romantic than a box of chocolates and a terrific wine? Some say it can’t be done, pairing wine with chocolate, but if you have the right chocolate and the right wine, it can be a match made in heaven. In preparation for Valentine's Day we enjoyed learning about pairing different kinds of chocolate with the correct wines to capture that perfect zen-like moment. We were all in heaven, It was suggested that we actally savour the taste of the chocolate and let it melt in our mouths instead of inhaling it hmmm, a unique experience for many of us who were used to eating chocolate so quickly that we rarely even paid attention to how it actually tasted. Our absolute overall favourite was pairing Gewurtzaminer with white chocolate. Following in second place was pairing Tawny Port with a Bittersweet Dark Chocolate. We all enjoyed many conversations thoughout the night but managed to take away some impressive information to share with our hubbies on Valentine's Day:)

Money, Money, Money..

Nope, it wasn't an evening spent singing along to the Mama Mia soundtrack, it was an evening shared with moms interested in money, how to get more, how to save more, how to spend wisely. My head is still spinning from all the tips and tricks. We talked about RESP's, RRSP's, the huge downturn in the economy, ideas to shelter the storm, weekly meal planning, shopping habits, you name it, it was discussed. We all learned from each other and we're looking forward to meeting 6 times a year to discuss all sorts of things related to Money! Well, I am off to write my weekly meal plan out for next week (then I'll be all ready for the Friday flyers to see where all the stuff I need to make meals for the following week will be on sale.) YIPPEE!!!

momstown Oakville at Toys R Us Babyfest

The cold temperatures couldn't keep new moms away from Toys R Us yesterday! momstown Oakville was there with a great momstown display letting moms-to-be, new moms and veteran moms who live in Oakville know all about the wonderful world of momstown.ca.

We shared photos and comments from our members and talked to them about all the great activities we have planned in the coming months; Bookclubs, Supperclub, Money Club, playgroups, parenting seminars, etc. We wanted to share with as many moms as possible the benefits of becoming a member of momstown Oakville and let them know what a wonderful support system we are for each other as we journey through mommyhood together.

Antz in your Pantz Playdate Field Trip

Today's playdate at Antz in Your Pantz was a blast. There was a lot of running around (and crawling by the younger set), and controlled mayhem. The space has something for children of all ages, snack bar stocked with healthy choices and it's small enough that you can usually see your little person (or people, unless they are zipping down one of the tunnel slides:).

Our little momstown Oakville munchkins made fast friends and a couple of us moms even managed to finish our sentences! We had a party room reserved for momstown and a potluck snack table which kept everyone happy (kids and moms!). We'll do this one again next month, stay tuned to the calendar for more details..."

Bowling for Fun!

The kids had a blast at the Backlot Bowling Alley in the new SilverCity entertainment complex at Burloak and QEW. The new facility has it all, bumpers on the gutters to keep the ball on track and even a stand the kids can roll the ball off to get it going in the right general direction :), the price was right too, with five kids sharing a lane, it came to only $5.00 per child for bowling!

momstown Oakville also experienced first rate customer service and comfy laneside seating. One tip for next time, eat and drink before you come, I forgot how expensive movie snacks are! Our next bowling event is booked for February 15, so if you are already a momstown.ca member sign up and come on out for some weekend fun and if you're not a momstown member yet, check us out on the web at momstown.ca.

Monthly Playgroup and Seminar

Yesterday, we held our regular monthly playgroup in the party room at The Little Gym. Healthy Sprouts gave an informative talk on starting 6-12 month olds on solid foods. The toddlers were entertained by lots of fun activities while the moms got a chance to learn more about introducing their babies to solids. Healthy Sprouts had samples and hand-outs to help guide moms on what to feed their babies and when to start all the food groups. All this while the kids were busy playing with playdoh and exploring their new tents and tunnel! I'm running out to the bookstore to pick up Dr. Greene's "Raising Baby Green", full of nutrition tips during pregnancy and babies for my next shower gift. The book is chock full of ideas to help environmentally conscious parents make healthy product and lifestyle choices. Healthy Sprouts is hosting a toddler nutrition seminar for momstown members on Jan. 25, details on the momstown calendar.
