Little Scientists: Erupting Volcanos

This weekend momstown Oakville's Little Scientists created their own erupting volcano.  This is a fabulous preschooler science activity!  We started first with talking about what a volcano is and making our hypothesis about what we thought would happen.  Then we talked about our materials and about what they smelled like and looked like and what kinds of things they are used for around the house.

Then we got to work with making a playdoh volcano around a baby food jar.  We added 4 drops of red food colouring, followed by 2 Tbsp of baking soda.

Finally we got to pour in the vinegar and watch the eruption!  Our scientists got to try it over and over, adding more vinegar and more baking soda.

Once we had gotten all the fizzing out of our jars, we cleaned up and coloured a tiny book that included pictures on how a volcano erupts.

Our scientists loved getting involved in this project and watching the eruption take place.  It was a great afternoon of fun and learning!  We've got another Little Scientist project lined up for October.  Interested in joining us?  Buy your membership here or sign up for a 4 week free trial.
